Asus smartphones were sometimes average, sometimes perfect. Best example is the Zenfone 3. When launched, it had the latest hardware with top line camera sensor and full of features. The price was very reasonable. If you are a lover of a premium phone but don't want to spend too much, that was your ideal choice. You can still buy it from online stores (probably the best camera phone you can get around).
The zenfone max pro m1 is both a budget and a quality midrange phone |
The Zenfone max pro m1 comes with impressive hardware, almost proving to be an ideal phone for the price which is not even the correct value for price. Well, that seems true since these are provided in just midrange phones only. Though few parameters are changed to compete with the midrange phones.
The different variants of the max pro m1 comes with similar hardware, only the camera is a bit changed. The smaller 3-4GB RAM variants come with a normal 13MP (f/2.2 lens, 1/3" sensor) with 5MP depth sensor and a 8MP front camera with LED Flash. That's more than enough for a budget phone, since the 3GB/32GB starts at 10,999 INR. The more pricier midrange 6GB version comes with a 16MP (f/2.0 lens, 1/3" too) with a 5MP depth sensor and a 16MP front camera with LED Flash. The midrange version has better camera specs, atleast a better front camera and wider Rear camera lens for better low light snaps. The other camera features like HDR, face unlock, AutoFocus (Phase Detection AutoFocus), Touch focus too, video rec includes 4K, 1080p at 60fps are common on all the variants. Going for a simple DUAL DEPTH SENSE Camera seemed perfect as to keep the price low and still provide the necessary features. The Camera on the max pro m1 performs amazing too.
The other hardware features remains similar. It is better on the point that Asus decided to bump up the camera on the pricier version which seemed a very good choice, as to compete with the other brands. As though the chipset is a new midrange level Snapdragon 636 Octacore ( Eight 1.8Ghz Kryo 260 cores) with an Adreno 509 GPU, powerful enough to run the 1080p screen and the needed gaming boost from the previous generation max phones which had very little oomph for games. Though the Snapdragon 630 would have been a better choice, since that is a perfect chipset for battery efficiency. The 636 comes with a power efficient group too (for running the phone during idle time and low level tasks), which does help in saving a lot of battery. Regarding performance, the 636 is enough for handling power intensive tasks, graphic intensive games and anything. Plus, it has support for faster LPDDR4X type RAMs, which provides faster, fluid multitasking while ongoing process are smooth. The 636 is made on a 14nm FINFET fabrication process so to reduce power consumption by 25% then most chipsets, and provide around 45% more performance boost.
The battery is one of the main aspects why the zenfone max pro m1 is one of the best phones made by Asus both in the midrange/Budget category. It has a huge 5000mAh battery pack that is enough for running the phone for around 2 days roughly with bit heavy usage. Also, with a 14nm chipset, the power consumption is significantly reduced (the lower Cortex-A53 based Kryo cores are much power efficient and remain active most of the time). The 636 can though provide intense power (Cortex-A73 based Kryo cores can also run altogether) without draining much of the battery. The 636 was though a better choice for huge power output than the 630. The max pro m1 also comes with Qualcomm's Quick Charge 4.0 that can charge up the battery from 0-50% in around 30 mins.
The goods in the max pro m1 seemed to be very much suited, both for the price and performance. Earlier max phones did not have highly energy efficient powerful processors or DUAL camera setups or even quick charge capabilities. The new zenfone max brings this features in a minimal price thus providing premium, performance, perfection in a single smartphone.
